EUGENE, Ore. A Georgia couple has almost finished an unusual road trip to raise awareness about the crisis in Syria.

Katie and Dustin Kelm have been on the road since June, unicycling their way through 14 states.

They started out in Savannah and now, more than 3,000 miles later, they made it to Oregon.

Dustin Kelm said their journey started when a 10-year-old Syrian refugee approached him in Switzerland and said his parents had been killed.

The refuge ride is us on these two, big 36-inch unicycles riding coast to coast, to bring hope and health to Syrian refugees, Kelm said.

The couple plans to wrap up the trip Wednesday in Yachats.
