GRESHAM, Ore. A Portland man was arrested Wednesday for shooting a man found dead in his car Saturday, police said.

Jeffery Oliver Pope, 31, of Gresham, was found dead just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Rockwood Park Apartments at 17376 NE Couch Street, said Gresham police Detective John Rasmussen.

Investigators said Pope had been shot inside his car and his death was ruled a homicide.

Evidence at the scene linked 42-year-old Alamo Shagadadean Williams, of Portland, to the crime scene, Rasmussen said. Williams was taken into custody without incident and jailed for murder.

Rasmussen said Williams and Pope had known each other for years.

Anyone with more information about the case was asked to call Gresham police at (503) 618-2719.
