SHERIDAN, Ore. No troopers were on duty early Sunday morning when a man was hit and killed after reports he was acting erratically on Highway 18 near Sheridan, police said.

Around 2 a.m., police received two reports of a man jumping in front of traffic, throwing rocks at cars, jumping on the hood of a car and pounding on its door, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

Then, 20 minutes later, police dispatch learned the man was struck and killed. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hastings said.

Police identified the man through fingerprints as 21-year-old Devin Cavan of Willamina.
