PORTLAND - A Sherwood man is being lauded by police after detaining a tip jar thief at a Dutch Bros.

Adrian Estrella, 19, of Sherwood was standing at the walk up window on Monday when he took cash from the tip jar and walked away from the business, according to Sherwood Police. That's when the Good Samaritan - whose identity hasn't been released by police - detained Estrella, told him that stealing is wrong, and reiterated to Estrella that the money belonged to Dutch Bros.

Estrella was later arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of heroin and booked into the Washington Co. Jail.

Police praised the Good Samaritan's actions and plans to surreptitiously recognize his efforts and thank him according to a press release from SherwoodPD Capt. Ty Hanlon.

While citizens are generally discouraged from intervening with a crime in progress, the Sherwood Police Department recognizes the important role all residents play in keeping Sherwood safe, added Hanlon.
