PORTLAND -- What looked like a sure victory slipped away as the Portland Thorns FC finished in a tie with the Chicago Red Stars 3-3 Sunday afternoon at Jeld-Wen Field.

Former UP star Megan Rapinoe was in the stands cheering on her former classmates at Sunday's game.

The Thorns jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by former UP star Christine Sinclair, and by Mona Shim.

After a Chicago goal in the 60th minute, Sinclair notched a second goal to give the Thorns a seemingly commanding 3-1 lead.But Chicago rallied for two goals in the last 15 minutes to snatch a draw.

Portland is in third place in the National Women's Soccer League, with a record of 9-4-4.

The Thorns take on the second-ranked Sky Blue FC (9-5-4) at Jeld-Wen Field Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
