PORTLAND - Kyron Horman s dad is among those finding hope in the happy ending to the case of three missing children in Ohio.

It's been nearly three years since Kyron went missing from his Portland elementary school. His father Kaine has not given up hope finding answers in his son's case.

In a phone interview Tuesday morning, Kaine called the news of the Ohio rescue wonderful, and said it is truly a community effort to keep the search for missing children going.

Seeing these other cases come to a positive conclusion really reaffirms that we need to be very vigilant in our efforts and really helps to provide some answers when people ask you, 'Why do you keep doing this, why don t you give up?' Horman told KGW. There's too many stories out there, and there continue to be stories of children who have been separated from their families for maybe a couple of months, maybe a couple of years, maybe much longer than that, and we're seeing that happen, and we're seeing that positive outcome.

In recent years, there have been several happy endings for high profile cases where children had disappeared.

Eighteen years after her kidnapping, Jaycee Dugard was rescued in California, not far from where she grew up.

Elizabeth Smart was missing for nine months, held by kidnappers in Salt Lake City, before police brought her home.

Kaine Horman says it s stories like those, and the latest news out of Ohio where three young women were found alive after being missing for ten years, that keep victims families going.

The news was positive in Cleveland Monday, but many missing persons cases drag on for decades with no answers. There are currently 401 unsolved cases of missing children in Oregon, and 962 cases in Washington.

Police estimated that about 80 percent of children reported missing are considered runaways. Their photos and descriptions are posted online until their case is solved, no matter how long it takes.
