PORTLAND -- A Jesuit High School junior received a special honor at the White House.

Meghana Rao was one of 30 students who got to show off their science projects as part of the White House Science Fair.

President Barack Obama looked at several projects, including Rao s.

She works with a kind of charcoal known as bio-char and studies how well it stores carbon.

To be here today was super, super fun, she said Monday. So exciting.

Jesuit principal Paul Hogan said Rao deserves the honor.

Meghana is a fabulous young person, amazing, she's sort of a bundle of energy herself, Hogan said.

Her trip to D.C. fell on the same day a group she helped found, the Portland Junior Scientists, officially became incorporated by law firm Ater Wynne. The group connects high school students with underprivileged children though science experiments.
