PORTLAND --- A would-be armed robber thought he could get some quick cash Tuesday afternoon. What he didn't count on was a fearless clerk and some loyal customers who weren t going to let it happen.

The robber, wearing a ski cap and sunglasses, walked into Nick's Double-Up Deli, located at 8028 SE Powell Blvd., around 3:00 p.m. The store clerk said the man came around the counter brandishing a gun.

The only thing he yelled was, 'Give me the money,' the victim said. But the tides quickly changed when a female customer walked in, startling the robber, who hid the gun behind his back.

With the robber distracted, the clerk reached for the gun. The two struggled. Customers in another room heard him yelling, and came out to help.

The struggle went on for almost a minute. Eventually the gun clip fell to the floor. The three men beat and pushed the robber all the way through the door and he took off.

The victim received a minor hand injury but did not require medical attention. The suspect was described as a white man in his mid-30s, 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall, with a medium build, wearing dark clothing.
