PORTLAND - Cold Case detectives in Portland said they have closed a 2002 homicide case.
In January of that year, police found 66-year-old Jack Harvey Jones dead with visible head trauma at a home on the 3700 block of Southeast Division Street.
In 2011, two different sources told police 37-year-old James Edward Follett admitted that he had killed Jones.
Detectives said Follett was a heavy drug user at the time and asking for money from neighbors. The crime was thought to be the result of a robbery.
Follett died of a drug overdose in December 2010. Investigators wanted to remind the public how important witness information is to solving crimes.
The bureau has nearly 300 unsolved murders dating back to 1969.
