NEWBERG, Ore. -- Fire crews were called Thursday morning to a 2-alarm fire at a pet store in Newberg.

The fire was reported just after 7:30 a.m. at the Critter Cabana exotic pet store, in the 500 block of East 1st Street, according to Division Chief Frank Douglas of the Newberg Fire Department.

Fire crews and employees were able to get a few animals out to safety. The store contained hundreds of fish and other animals.

We are very sorry to report that much of the animal life in the store did not survive, Newberg Fire Capt. Jeff Kosmicki said.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews were called in to assist.

There were no reports of firefighter or civilian injuries.
