BROOKINGS, Ore. -- A trooper was injured early Thursday morning when a drunk driving suspect crashed into his car on Highway 101, police said.

Senior Trooper Jeff Johnson was parked along the north side of the highway, near Brookings, when a northbound pickup truck drifted onto the shoulder and struck his patrol car, according to Oregon State Police Sgt. Scott Punch.

The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Sean Russell, had been traveling at 63 mph when he struck the trooper's car, Punch said. The pickup came to rest about 100 yards north of the crash and Russell was not injured.

Johnson was taken by ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Brookings police jailed Russell on charges of DUII and reckless driving. His blood alcohol concentration was .18 percent, Punch said.
