THE DALLES -- A Tidewater barge hauling diesel struck an underwater object in the Columbia River about 3 a.m. Friday near The Dalles Dam.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded and reported no leaks from the mishap.

The double-bottom Tri-City Voyager barge was carrying 1.8 millions gallons of diesel and pushed by the tug Defiance, said Coast Guard spokesman Robert K. Lanier.

After an inspection found no leaks, the barge and tug continued through the dam locks and moored along a basin wall, he said.

Coast Guard specialists were expected to inspect the barge.
