PORTLAND Two robbery suspects were captured after fleeing from police and crashing a car early Saturday morning in Southeast Portland, police said.

One suspect was captured at the scene while the other fled on foot and barricaded himself in a home in the 1200 block of Southeast 51st Avenue around 2 a.m., said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.

Earlier Saturday, police got a call of a robbery in progress at Gator s Bar & Grill at 6605 Southeast Powell Boulevard. When officers got there, they spotted two men running to a car that then sped away.

Police chased the car for three minutes until it crashed into a parked car at Southeast 52nd Avenue and Taylor Street. That s when both suspects got out and ran, Simpson said.

Police nabbed 29-year-old Antwaun Spencer (pictured) immediately, but the second man whom police have not named disappeared into the neighborhood, Simpson said.

Officers then established a perimeter, called in a K-9 unit, and began searching the neighborhood.

The dog led police to a home on Southeast 51st Avenue where they found the suspect barricaded in a mud room attached to the home, Simpson said.

The suspect wasn t saying anything, so police called in the Special Emergency Reaction Team and crisis negotiators to resolve the situation.

The suspect then started yelling that he d been shot in the leg and surrendered to police. He was treated by medical personnel and taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg that may have been self-inflicted, Simpson said.

No one else was injured during the robbery and subsequent pursuit.
