PORTLAND - With water temperatures in the mid 40s to lower 50s in many area rivers and streams, the National Weather Service is warning people about safety on rivers ahead of the warm weekend.

After record-breaking spring rains and snow, the area waterways are running fast and cold, with more debris than usual.

Boaters were reminded to use life jackets and swimming was not advised.
