PORTLAND -- The Oregon Zoo's newest giraffe, Riley, is easily recognizable, thanks to a heart-shaped marking on his left side.
The 8-year-old, 17 foot tall giraffe came to the Oregon Zoo from Utah's Hogle Zoo last week, and zoo visitors can now see him in the Africa Savanna habitat.
He'll only stay in Oregon for two years, while the Hogle Zoo is renovating its giraffe habitat.
He joins 5-year-old male giraffe Bakari, who has been at the Oregon Zoo since 2009 and has been the zoo s sole giraffe since the popular longtime resident Akeem died in December.
We are glad to be able to help out another zoo while they update their facility, said the zoo's Jennifer Davis. We are also excited to give our own giraffe a companion. It s a win-win situation for everyone.
Bakari will stay in the indoor giraffe space while the two giraffes are slowly introduced to each other.
