PORTLAND -- Recovering Blazers center Greg Oden may not be back on the court until next January, according to Bill Duffy of BDA Sports, whose agency represents the player.
He made the revelation during an interview with Brian Berger on 750 AM The Game.
We don't want to come back too soon. We're not going to even challenge it until we get to that 12 month threshold. If it were December or November or January we just can't afford any more slip ups. We'll wait until we get full clearance and then probably err on the side of caution, maybe a month or so after that.
Oden has completed micro-fracture surgery on both knees and has been treated for a foot injury since 2007.
Duffy said Oden has also had counseling, therapy and interventions to help him deal with the mental side of those injuries.
He has been training in Los Angeles, both for exposure to other athletes working out, and to be away from the glare he would face in Portland,Duffy said.
The Blazers have until June 30 to make Oden a qualifying offer.
Blazer interim GM said the team's primary concern was that Oden get healthy. Chad Buchanan said he assumed Oden and his agent would be 'very receptive' to an offer.
A former Blazer has told KGW's Michael Berk that Oden needs a change of scenery.
