PORTLAND The Portland Water Bureau conducted a second round of tests after a recent test found the bacteria coliform. The second test came back clean.
On Thursday, officials tested for both E. coli and total coliform during standard tests.
While E. coli tests came back negative, coliform was detected.
Total coliform is not harmful to people, but it s a good indicator that we need to re-test, said Jaymee Cuti, spokeswoman for the water bureau.
The contamination was likely caused by issues with the water distribution such as a loss of water pressure from a pipe break, Cuti said.
On Saturday morning, new tests did not find E. coli or coliform, and the water bureau confirmed Portland water is safe to drink.
