WOODBURN, Ore. A Beaverton woman was struck and killed while walking across Highway 211 near Woodburn early Saturday morning, according to Oregon State Police.

Two women were walking along the highway about five miles east of Woodburn around 4:30 a.m. when they decided to cross the highway in the darkness, police said.

One of the women made it safely across but the second woman, 36-year-old Amanda Hockett of Beaverton, was hit by a car.

Hockett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, 20-year-old Abel Calderon of St. Paul, was not injured and cooperated with investigators.

Police said there was no indication Calderon was at fault.
