PORTLAND, Ore. A dog injured in an altercation with an animal control officer is getting support through social media.
The nine-year-old Collie-Labrador mix 'Dojie' already had her own Facebook page. Now, there is a page to create a call to action to get the dog s supporters to call Washington County officials.
Dojie was hit in the eye and his owner said the eye is so badly damaged it will be removed next week.
Marlin Starr was not home when the animal control officer injured Dojie and the dog was out of her yard because a gate had blown open.
The officer claimed that Dojie became aggressive and was on the attack, so he used a baton called a bite stick to defend himself.
Starr doesn t believe his dog would attack and thinks the officer committed animal abuse.
Hillsboro Police are investigating the incident.
Starr said Dojie is recovering well.
She s actually in good spirits, she such a strong animal. She s incredibly brave, Starr said. I keep asking myself, 'Why did this happen,' and the only thing i can come up with is she s brave enough to handle it and I m strong enough to make sure that this does not happen again.
In the meantime, Dojie'sFacebook page is getting lots of attention from the dog s friends.
Washington County officials said they cannot comment on specifics of the case as it is being investigated, but reiterated thatWashington County cares deeply about the well being of animals and the well-being of our community, according to spokesperson Julie McCloud.
