GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. Highway 35 was backed up past Government Camp near Mt. Hood Sunday morning as hundreds of people headed up to the fresh snow on the mountain.
Timberline Road was closed early Sunday due to more than 3 feet of fresh powder that dumped on the mountain after a storm hit Oregon late Friday and continued through the weekend.
The resort was operating a shuttle from the parking lot at Ski Bowl West.
Oregon s dry winter put a bit of a damper on the holiday ski season. Mt. Hood Meadows and Timberline had barely enough snow to operated lifts on Christmas.
The weekend s fresh snow had skiers flocking en masse Sunday to the mountain s three ski resorts. Mt. Hood Meadows said it was getting up to 2 inches of snow per hour at times and doubled the resort's base, which is now over 50 inches.
Snow turned to rain Sunday evening as skiers packed up and headed home in slushy conditions.
