ST. HELENS, Ore. -- A St. Helens woman is recovering after being shot in a hunting accident.

Lindsay Roub, 24, was hunting with her boyfriend outside of Scappoose Friday when she lost her footing on an embankment. She said she asked her boyfriend to grab her rifle and help her.

The gun hit a tree and the safety clicked off, Roub said. She said the gun then hit the ground and fired, sending a bullet through her leg, pelvis, stomach and colon.

Her boyfriend used a belt as a tourniquet and ran for help.

All I kept telling him was...either I'm going to die or I'm going to lose my leg, Roub said. That was the longest 20 minutes to half-hour of my life.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she underwent three surgeries between Friday and Monday. She will be hospitalized for weeks, but was expected to make a full recovery.
