EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A man who escaped from a Roseburg jail in a trash bin will spend almost a decade in prison.
The Register-Guard reports 33-year-old Thomas Grimes of Springfield pleaded guilty Friday to eight charges related to an encounter he had with Springfield police while on the run. His 18-month sentence for those crimes will be on top of a 7 1/2 -year sentence he received for a robbery.
Grimes escaped last June when he hid in a trash can that other inmates placed outside the jail.
For several weeks Grimes shuttled between Lane and Douglas counties. Police in Springfield caught sight of him twice, once in June and again in July, but Grimes sped away both times and escaped.
He was eventually arrested a remote campsite.
