PORTLAND -- Police are warning drivers to celebrate New Year s Eve responsibly and reminding everyone that DUII patrols will be out in full force.

Police are also asking the public to help catch drunk drivers. They were asking that people call 9-1-1 to report any drivers that appear to be impaired.

In Portland, TriMet officials said they were also doing what they can to help keep people safe this holiday. TriMet will provide free bus and MAX service starting at 8 p.m. and MAX trains will extend service until about 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.

We really want people to celebrate safely this year and while we don't encourage people to over-indulge, we recommend they leave the driving to us, said TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Astadt.
