MADRAS, Ore. -- Oregon State Police are investigating how a driver crashed into a school bus near Madras.

There were 43 people on the bus including children from kindergarten through fifth grades. No one on the bus was hurt.

It was stopped on Highway 361 three miles south of Madras Wednesday afternoon with red lights activated to let students off. Two other vehicles were stopped behind the bus when another car coming from behind failed to stop. It swerved onto the shoulder, passed the stopped vehicles and crashed into the right rear side of the bus.

The driver, 62-year-old Janet Farrell, was taken to Mountain View Hospital in Madras. Her injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Jefferson County School District sent another bus to the scene for the students.
