CATHLAMET, Wash. (AP) -- A county spokeswoman says the sheriff of Wahkiakum County in southwest Washington has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Spokeswoman Marsha LaFarge says Sheriff Jon Dearmore died about 5 p.m. Tuesday at his home. She said she did not know the circumstances.

LaFarge says the sheriff's office received a call from Dearmore's wife reporting there had been a gunshot.

The 50-year-old Dearmore had been sheriff for two years and had been in law enforcement for more than 25 years.
