OREGON CITY-- A split-second decision by a complete stranger saved a woman's life as her home went up in flames Wednesday evening in Oregon City.

Who would have ever thought I would be saving someone's house? said Mike Taeu into his cell phone video camera as he put out the flames Wednesday around 6pm.

Taeu was canvassing the 400 block of Telford Rd in Oregon City, passing out political fliers for House District 40, when he spotted smoke coming from a home. As he got closer, he heard smoke alarms.

I then heard her call out and that's when the smoke was coming down the stairs, Taeu said.

Without thinking, he rushed inside, crawling low under the smoke.

I couldn't see her. I just walked up into the room and that's when I saw a white shirt, I grabbed her arm, he said.

He pulled her to the front lawn then grabbed a garden hose and began to put out the flames.

Once there was just smoke, he started recording on his cell phone what ended up being quite the day to remember. Oh man, this is crazy, he said in the video.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters said because of Taeu, that fire was contained to just one room instead of the entire house
