PORTLAND Detectives were looking for whoever left a box containing a heart at the front door of a Northwest Portland home.

Officers were called Wednesday to the 2300 block of Northwest Flanders Street and found the evidence. They brought it to the Oregon State Medical Examiner s Office, where it was determined that it was a cow heart.

I think anyone would be disturbed if you came out to your front porch and you found a heart on the porch, said Sergeant Pete Simpson.

The residents told police they had no idea why the heart was left at their house but someone had also left a note in their mailbox.

I can't even explain it or even know why someone would do it, said James Lynch, who lives at the home. Kind of bizarre.

Police did not disclose what the attached note said. Lynchtold NewsChannel 8it said something to the effect of my heart is yours forever.

Anyone with information was asked to submit tips to CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov
