PORTLAND -- Just in time for the 4th of July holiday weekend, the sun is shining on activities throughout the Portland metro area.
The biggest event under the sun is the Waterfront Blues Fest, at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Blues musicians are sharing the stage with sunshine, and thousands of people have come out to enjoy both.

It s fantastic! We just drove in from Southern California and we re amazed it s as nice here as it is there, said Carly Crandall.
At the athletic fields in Delta Park, about 250 youth soccer players mixed it up at the 2nd annual Immigrant and Refugee Soccer World Cup, put on by Portland Parks and Recreation. The event brings together young players who have immigrated to the area from all over the world. Sunshine greeted their games on the field.
In Vancouver, the sun shone on a pancake breakfast in the Rose Village neighborhood, sponsored by Urban Abundance, a non-profit group that promotes sustainable healthy food practices. Kids started work after their breakfast, on a mural that will send a healthy eating message.
And in Portland s Hollywood district, Whole Foods Market got the street next to their store shut down, for an open-air hot wings competition. Four restaurants served up tasty wings, and people gave them a try and voted for their favorite. But the best part may have been the weather.
It s Pristine. It s why we wait through the rain for days like today. Beautiful. Beautiful, said Matt Bellingham, as he munched on a hot wing in the sun.
