MCMINNVILLE, Ore. Evergreen Wings and Waves Waterpark has invited students to compete in an essay contest to win eight free class trips to the park for its grand opening June 6.

Eight first through eighth grade classrooms within 60 miles of McMinnville will win transportation and free entry to the water park. The students with the winning essays will each win a $500 college savings account.

All essays will be water-related. First and second grade students must write a few sentences or draw a picture explaining why water is important. Third through fifth grade students must write a story from a drop of water s point of view as it goes through the water cycle. Sixth through eighth grade students will be asked to describe why ice floats.

All essays must be 500 words or less and have to be submitted by May 12.
