NEWBERG, Ore. -- One of the State s top High School basketball coaches is moving on to a new challenge. Michael Meek is leaving powerhouse Southridge High School for George Fox University to coach the women s basketball team.

To me, George Fox is just the perfect fit, said Meek during a news conference held by George Fox at the World Trade Center in downtown Portland.

The beliefs in the school, what they speak for and what they stand for was huge in our decision, said Meek, who replaces Scott Rueck, who left to coach the women s team at Oregon State.

Meek s record speaks for itself, more than 200 wins in the last decade running the Southridge program, including five State Titles in the last six years.

It s not about the wins and losses, it s not about the success, it s about the journey and the relationships, said Meek.

And that s why players from both teams turned out for the announcement.

I think it just shows how much he s done for everyone, said Allison Greene, a Guard at Southridge, I mean, he cares about us on and off the court. Even though he s going to George Fox I know I can ask him for anything and he would be right there to help me.

Meek s family is also excited about the move, including his young daughter McKelle.

Meek said McKelle told him Just kind of out of the blue I said, I think it would be great if we went to George Fox, because if we won the National Championship we can get a T-shirt there too.
