PORTLAND, Ore. -- Phil Knight may have lost a billion or two in the current recession, but hey, who's counting?

released its annual list of mighty money makers and Nike founder Knight was ranked the 52nd wealthiest person in the world.

Knight moved up 21 spots on the list, with a fortune of approximately $8.2 billion. His bump up the list came despite losing some $2 billion in the last year.

According to the magazine, Knight has been selling his stock in the company he founded with a former coach 45 years ago, in 1964.

Knight is known for his philanthropy in Oregon; in 2007 he made a $100 million contribution to the University of Oregon athletic department. Last year, he personally donated $100 million to the Oregon Health Sciences & University Cancer Institute.

The 71-year-old Beaverton resident was the only Oregonian to make the list. However, the Portland Trail Blazers owner, Seattle resident Paul Allen, came in 32nd with an estimated fortune of about $10 billion.

There were 332 fewer billionaires on this year's list. In 2008, Forbes listed 1,125 billionaires; in 2009, that number had dropped to 793.
