UPDATE:The owl's injuries were so severe that it had to be euthanized, the sheriff's office announced Monday afternoon.

HUBBARD, Ore. -- An injured barn owl was found on a Clackamas County road early Monday morning, officials said.

Deputies were called just after 3 a.m. to the report of a wounded owl at South Barlow Road and Highway 211, according to Sgt. Nathan Thompson of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

Two women driving by said they saw eyes in the roadway on Barlow Road, Thompson said.

It turned out to be an owl that couldn't fly. The women helped a responding deputy put the owl in a container and it was taken to Northwest Veterinary Specialists on 82nd Drive, Thompson said.

Staff members at NW Vet Specialists were able to stabilize the owl, Thompson said.
