SALEM On Friday, police identified the Salem woman's body found in a Yamhill County landfill Thursday.

Authorities say the body of 55-year-old Solveg Birgitte Pedersen Cox was transported in a garbage truck to the landfill.

At around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Cox's body was discovered at the Riverbend Landfill west of McMinnville, according to Yamhill County Sheriff s deputies.

Capt. Tim Svenson of the Yamhill County sheriff's office said the worker saw what he thought was a mannequin roll off the blade of a machine spreading waste at the landfill, but when he looked closer, he saw it was a corpse.

The truck that brought the woman to the landfill was traced back to West Salem.

Salem detectives identified the Cox through fingerprints, according to the McMinnville News-Register.

The investigation was ongoing.
