PORTLAND -- An Astoria man was indicted for murder Thursday in the death of a 2-year-old boy.

A Multnomah County Grand Jury indicted Joshua Howard, 28, was indicted for murder, murder by abuse and criminal mistreatment on Thursday, police said.

Howard was arrested March 4 after police arrived at his room at the Unicorn Motel on Southeast 82nd Avenue and found him with a toddler with life-threatening injuries.

Howard had called 911 and was the boyfriend of the child's mother.

The boy died at the hospital on March 6.
