PORTLAND People who live or work near a gas leak in Southeast Portland were asked to stay inside Monday while crews worked to fix the leak.

A construction crew hit a gas line with a concrete-cutting saw Monday morning near Southeast 11th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.

The crew reported hearing a roaring sound and smelling rotten eggs.

Fire officials asked people who were near the leak to stay inside while they monitored nearby buildings for natural gas. Northwest Natural was working to get the leak contained.

Traffic in the area was affected during the incident.
