PORTLAND -- A Portland bomb squad was called in Monday morning when a suspicious device was found outside a North Portland food pantry, police said.
Officer were called just after 10:30 a.m. to the report of the device on the steps of the Hereford House food pantry, in the 7600 block of North Hereford Avenue.
Officers responded and briefly examined the suspicious device and based on their observations called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit to respond to the scene, said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
The device was found to be a Thermos with wires sticking out of it. It was removed from the scene and detonated.
Some neighbors were asked to shelter-in-place temporarily, Simpson said. But no evacuations were reported.
