BEND, Ore. (AP) -- Two hospital executives in Central Oregon are losing their jobs as the St. Charles Health System cuts costs.

The organization runs four hospitals: in Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville.

St. Charles officials say rising costs and decreased reimbursement mean the system needs to cut expenses by more than $5 million to make its 2014 budget.

The Bend Bulletin reports that Jay Henry, chief executive officer of St. Charles Bend, and Kirk Schueler, St. Charles' chief administrative officer, will leave effective Jan. 3, and their positions will be eliminated. Two CEOs remaining in the system will each oversee two hospitals.

Spokeswoman Lisa Goodman says more reductions in leadership and management are ahead, but hospital leaders are still working on how many positions will be cut and when.
