PORTLAND -- Two time capsules discovered during a recent Portland building renovation were opened Thursday, revealing a glimpse into the city's past.

The capsules were found during the demolition of the historic Friendship Masonic Lodge in Northeast Portland. Officials said it appeared that the capsules were sealed in 1912 and 1954.

The 1954 capsule contained historic photographs, documents, and newspaper clippings that were in near-perfect condition. Unfortunately many of the 1912 artifacts were badly damaged.

It's a piece of their history that they would probably love to preserve and pass onto their members, said Brad Fouts, with Fouts Construction.

Now a new time capsule has been created and organizers said it will be opened in 100 years.

The German American Society recently bought the renovated building.
