BEND, Ore. -- A retired Deschutes County sheriff's captain accidentally shot himself in a hand at the sheriff's firearms range in Millican, east of Bend.

The sheriff's office says he had completed his annual qualification Wednesday and was disassembling his 9 mm pistol for cleaning when a round in the chamber fired. Gun range staff and other retired officers provided first aid.

The Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/YUSN4n ) 66-year-old Randy Wight was treated and released from St. Charles Bend Medical Center.
