MADRAS A truck carrying beehives crashed on Highway 97 near Madras, spilling the boxes full of bees onto the highway Saturday night.

Just after 8:30 p.m., the flatbed semi truck transporting the bees swerved to miss an animal on the road.

The trailer s tires went off the road and the truck s driver lost control, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police. The truck spilled over on its side, which blocked the northbound lane.

The driver of the truck was not injured but was cited for failing to maintain a lane of travel.
