MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- A masked man with a gun robbed a Milwaukie 7-Eleven store early Tuesday morning and, after failing to get the cash from the register, stole a customer's purse, police said.

Police were called just after 1:30 a.m. to the report of an armed robbery at 7800 SE Lake Road, according to Deputy Bryon O'Neil of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

An employee told arriving deputies a man wearing a black hoodie and black face mask threatened the cashier with a handgun and demanded money, O'Neil said.

The suspect did not get any money in this attempt, O'Neil added. A purse was taken from a customer in the store, but she was also not injured.

The suspect fled on foot. Police searched the area with the help of a K-9 officer, but did not find the suspect. He was described as Hispanic, 25 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-9, with a medium build.

Anyone with information was asked to call the CCSO tip line at (503) 723-4949, or submit a tip via the online e-mail form.
