SALEM -- A motel in Salem was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night and the suspect got away before police arrived.

The man pointed a handgun at the Shilo Inn clerk just after 8 p.m. and demanded money. The clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of money and then the man fled on foot, police said. No one was injured.

The suspect was described as a white man in his late 30's, 6-foot-3 to 6-foot-4 inches tall with a skinny build and dirty blonde hair in a ponytail. He was wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt and dark khaki shorts.

The area was searched by officers and a K-9 team, but the suspect was not located.

The Shiloh Inn is located at 3304 Market St NE.

Police were asking anyone with information that may help the investigators to call their tip line at (503)588-8477.
