PORTLAND -- A driver crashed into a telephone pole, rolled his car and reportedly stripped naked on Highway 30 Saturday near the Sauvie Island Bridge, police said.

Roger Shaw, 30, of Portland was driving the older model Chevrolet Suburban when he crashed. He then got out of the wrecked vehicle and ran screaming and naked into the highway before going over a guardrail and disappearing, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with the Oregon State Police Bureau.

A witness told KGW he tried to help the driver but it seemed like the driver was possessed and under the influence of something.

Police found the man about ten minutes later floating in the water at a moorage. Troopers and deputies detained him without incident and he was taken in an ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Hastings said.

The wreck happened around 3:30 p.m. and traffic was backed up for nearly two hours near Riverview Avenue and Highway 30, Hastings said.

Police said the driver is in custody and they took him to be evaluated.
