BEAVERTON -- A TriMet bus crashed into a rail crossing pole on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway Friday morning and police cited the driver for careless driving.

There were no passengers on the bus when it struck the pole at the intersection with Lombard about 6:15 a.m.. The driver was not hurt, said Sgt. Mike Rowe.

The driver was just beginning the shift, said TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt.

Eastbound traffic on the highway was expected to be closed for several hours to investigate the accident and repair the crossing pole.

WES rail service continued, Altstadt said. The Line 52 bus had a slight detour.
