BEND -- Mount Bachelor announced a rare closure of the ski resort Thursday, blaming problems due to heavy snowfall and strong winds but reopened Friday.

Five feet of snow fell in three days at the Central Oregon resort. In-bound hiking had also been prohibited and there were power outages in the area.

The resort said staff would be grooming slopes, clearing roads and lots and conducting avalanche safety checks.

Skiers returning to the resort should make themselves familiar with the dangers of tree wells.
