PORTLAND A dinner for 700 was held Sunday to honor 19 Oregon chefs on the eve of the the Oscars of the food world nominee announcement.

A sold-out crowd at the Multnomah Athletic Club was treated to small plates from the state s most celebrated chefs, along with drinks from Oregon microbrews, wineries and distilleries.

The event raised funds for the James Beard Foundation s Northwest Culinary Arts Scholarship, which benefits Oregon Culinary Institute students .

Nominees for The James Beard Foundation Awards, among the country s most coveted culinary honors, were expected to be announced at a press conference Monday morning.

Five Oregon chefs have won the James Beard award and 14 have been nominated.
