PORTLAND, Ore. -- Rain, rain, go away? Not this year.

The latest soaking storm pushed Portland to a total of more than 45 inches of rain for the year. That's over 50 percent more rain than the city experienced in 2009, when 29.44 inches fell at Portland InternationalAirport.

Through Monday, 7.22 inches of rain have fallen at PDX in Portland in December. That's 40 percent above theaverage December rainfall of5.03 inches, with several wet days still to come in 2010.

The December totals follow the summer that wasn't, where cooler and wetter weather prevailed.

The year began with a spring that rained records: April set an all-time record with 25 measurable days of rain. May was the third-wettest in history, and June set a Portland record for the wettest ever, leading to the nickname June-uary.

In fact, from the first of April toJune- the official start of summer -the National Weather Service recorded only four days of officially sunny weather.

But it could be worse. Portland won't even come close to the all-time December rainfall record of 13.35 inches, set back in 1996.
