BEND, Ore. (AP) -- A Lebanon has died in a snowmobile crash in central Oregon Saturday.

Linn County Sheriff's Sgt. Michelle Duncan said 67-year-old George Elmer Eichner of Lebanon died after he hit a tree. He was part of a snowmobile club and was riding with 44-year-old Alen Lee Wargnier of Keizer.

Eichner was wearing a helmet and suffered a severe head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Santiam Pass is a 4,817-foot mountain pass in the Cascade Range, about 45 miles northwest of Bend.

In a separate accident, a Portland man was rescued Saturday after a head-on snowmobile crash near the top of Moon Mountain near Bend. 43-year-old Mike Galvan was transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with non-life threatening injuries.

Another snowmobile rider involved in the same crash was not injured.
