PORTLAND -- The usual congestion on Highway 43 at the Sellwood Bridge will get intermittently worse over the next two weeks as the foundations of the old bridge are removed, transportation officials said.

The work will close the northbound lane that goes under the bridge from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. That traffic will be routed through the interchange at the west end of the bridge.

Travelers may want to consider using alternate routes to avoid delays, Mulnomah County spokesman Mike Pullen said Tuesday.

The contractor will also be removing concrete barriers from the old interchange, Pullen said.
