PORTLAND A Corbett Middle School football team held its awards dinner Saturday at the Hooters in Jantzen Beach despite the team s coach losing his job for holding the event at the restaurant.

Waitresses lined up to cheer on the middle schoolers as they triumphantly made their entrance into the restaurant known for its server's skimpy outfits.

[I'm] not allowing myself to be bullied by a vocal minority, is the war I want to win, Coach Randall Burbach told KGW last week.

He said he asked the boys where they wanted to have their awards dinner and they chose Hooters. His own children had a positive experience there at age 12, he said.

Burbach moved forward with the plans to hold the dinner at Hooters despite the school s athletic director asking him to move venues. After he refused, Burbach was dismissed as volunteer coach of the team.

Hooters said it would pick up the tab and donate a percentage of Saturday's receipts to the Corbett booster fund.

Some might say that this restaurant objectifies women. I would tend to agree, the school s athletic director, J.P. Soulagnet said. It is not a restaurant that I would feel good about my wife or daughter working at. I think it sends the wrong message to our young men and that saddens and worries me the most.
